The best outfits begin with one piece you would wear every day if you could. Build around it, and let everything else play a supporting part.

Look at the details

Fabric, cut and colour do more than any trend. A fluid crepe moves differently from a crisp cotton, and a warm camel sits beside more colours than black does.

• Choose one statement piece per look.
• Repeat a colour once, from top to shoes.
• Balance a full shape with a slim one.

Try it on twice

Wear a new piece around the house for an hour before you take the tags off. You will know by then whether it is yours.
